NAKI III – Castles in the Landscape of the Moravian-Silesian Borderland

The full title of the project is Castles in the Landscape of the Moravian-Silesian Borderland – New Forms of Presenting Unused Historical Objects. It develops tools for the protection and appropriate use of castle estates whose historical development was disrupted after 1945, and looks for sustainable ways to restore their significance as natural cultural centres of the region. Model exhibitions with critical catalogues are prepared for three selected sites, using methods of monument research together with modern survey, documentation and analytical techniques, which are also applied to the cultural and historical values of the surrounding landscape. The outputs include two interactive expert maps, one documenting the castle sites of the region and one cataloguing the cultural and historical values of the Janovice estate, as well as audiovisual works and guidelines for owners of similar properties. The project is led by the National Heritage Institute together with the Silesian University in Opava and Palacký University Olomouc.
